Arsenal rejected a chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain ace Edinson Cavani, according to reports.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the Uruguayan ace, and The Mirror reports Arsene Wenger rejected the opportunity to sign Cavani for a hefty £50m fee.
According to the report, Wenger held talks over a deal for Cavani in the final few days of the transfer window but it is claimed he was put off by the Ligue 1 club’s asking price.
It is understood Arsenal did not want to pay £50m for the 28-year-old as they believed he offered no sell-on value.
It means Wenger will again rely on Olivier Giroud to be the focal point of his attack until at least January, and Arsenal’s lack of transfer activity has left fans angered.
Wenger insisted Arsenal were looking to sign an attacker before the end of the summer window, however, Chelsea gloveman Petr Cech was the club’s ony major signing of the off-season.
