Gunners could have signed Petr Cech.
Arsenal turned down the opportunity to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech whilst the experienced Czech Republic international was still a burgeoning young star with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, according to reports from the Telegraph.

Cech would go on to move to Stamford Bridge and become first choice at the club for a decade, before the return of Thibaut Courtois this summer left him out in the cold and looking set for a January exit from the club.
The story is attributed to Cech himself, who claimed that he could’ve moved to North London and that a deal was well in motion before work permit issues left it dead and Cech still plying his trade in the French top flight:
“Before I went to Rennes I was watched by Arsenal but when I couldn’t get a work permit the situation was missed.”
