Arsenal’s patience with Abou Diaby’s fitness finally ran out this afternoon as the Frenchman was one of seven players listed for release.
The midfielder had been with the Gunners for nine years, but made a disappointing 182 appearances for the club due to a luckless run of over 40 injury layoffs.
His only outing last season came in the Capital One Cup against Southampton in September. Diaby played just once in the previous campaign, and only five times in 2011-12.

Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi is the only other player with first-team experience among the seven. The 22-year-old made his Gunners debut in 2011, but has been loaned out in three of the last four seasons.
Academy graduates Semi Ajayi, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, Jack Jebb, Austin Lipman and Josh Vickers complete the septet of those not offered new contracts at the Emirates.
