Schalke deny Arsenal approach
Schalke have denied that Arsenal made a deadline day approach for Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, according to the London Evening Standard.
The Gunners were linked with a number of new signings upfront on deadline day, eventually signing Danny Welbeck in a £16m deal from Manchester United, but Huntelaar was also mentioned as a possible target.
However, Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt has denied these rumours, saying: “There was no approach from Arsenal or from any other club. “Klaas-Jan is part of Schalke’s core. We can definitely see him sign a contract renewal here.”
