Arsenal in pole position for Dortmund star
Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase to sign in-demand Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, according to the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old has been linked with the Gunners before, as well as with a whole host of other top clubs, and is widely regarded as one of the best attacking players in the world after his fine form for club and country over the last few years.
Able to play upfront, it may be that Arsene Wenger wants the German international to provide an alternative to Olivier Giroud as the club’s main striker.
Gunners make surprise Cavani approach
Another big-name striker being linked with Arsenal at the moment is Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani, according to the Metro.
The Uruguayan international became regarded as one of the best centre-forwards in world football during his time with Napoli, though his slight dip in form in Ligue 1 has seen him linked with a move away this summer.
The player’s agent confirmed that Arsenal have made an approach to sign him, saying: “I can confirm that Cavani heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal. [Cavani] Already said he would love to play in England, but has not yet made a final decision.”
Wenger chasing PSG youngster
In a potential double swoop on Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal are also believed to be tracking the club’s highly-rated French youngster Adrien Rabiot, according to the Daily Star.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown an interest in the 19-year-old midfielder, who may be lined up as a cheaper alternative to the club’s other high-profile targets such as Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon starlet William Carvalho.
Arsenal are supposedly making progress in their efforts to sign Rabiot, who recently rejected the offer of a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
Arsenal hope Vermaelen chooses Barcelona
Arsenal are hopeful that they can sell out-of-favour defender Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona rather than Manchester United, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Both United and Barca have been strongly linked as the main contenders to sign the Belgian international this summer, though the Gunners are understandably keen to see the 28-year-old move abroad instead of to one of the club’s Premier League rivals.
Arsene Wenger has hinted that the centre-back looks likely to leave, and United remain firmly in the hunt for his signature.
Wilshere linked with shock Serie A switch
Juventus have been linked with a surprise move to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to the London Evening Standard.
The 22-year-old has suffered a slight dip in form of late, though it is still thought that he would command a fee of over £30m if Juve did come calling, with the Italian giants considering their options in midfield due to the likely departure of Arturo Vidal this summer.
Wilshere has emerged as one of their top targets, with some initial talks with agents taking place in an effort to find out if there is any chance of the Gunners selling the England international.
