If the Gunners are dead set on landing Napoli superstar striker Gonzalo Higuain, they’ll have to bring a ton of money to the table as the Serie A club has slapped a £67 million price tag on the scoring sensation.
According to the Metro, Arsenal have been quoted a potentially record-breaking transfer price for Higuain, who finished with the 4th highest goals in Serie A this past season with 18 in 37 league appearances. The 27-year-old Argentinian national team star is coming off his second season with Napoli and has averaged a goal every other game in the last two seasons. Napoli narrowly missed a trip to the Champions League after finishing 5th on the Italian league table, but Higuain was a key player in the club clinching a spot in the Europa League.
“The (Serie A) club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of €94,736,000 (£67m),” according to Partenopei chief Nicolas Lombardo. “No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation.”
Higuain has been absolutely dominant as a striker since his breakout season with Real Madrid in 2008-09. After scoring 22 league goals that year, he set a career-high with 27 league goals the following season. In seven seasons and 190 appearances with Real Madrid, Higuain scored 107 league goals. Higuain has also scored 10 league goals in each of the last seven seasons, and 20+ goals in five of the last seven.
