Arsenal eye transfer move for Austrian star this summer after scouting him in UEFA Europa League action.
Arsenal are watching FC Basel centre back Aleksandar Dragovic and could move for the Austria international this summer.
Arsene Wenger sent chief scout Steve Rowley the short journey across north London to watch the Basel defender in action against the Gunners’ arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their UEFA Europa League quarter final clash.
Basel of course took a two goal lead, but were pegged back by a scrappy Emmanuel Adebayor goal and a deflected effort from distance from midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
It would be hard to blame either strike on Dragovic, particularly when the centre back has made a career from being in the right place at the right time.
The 22 year-old averages an impressive 7.5 clearances per match in his 11 UEFA Europa League appearances so far, as well as two interceptions per match, and both of those statistics (courtesy of WhoScored.com) illustrate that his positioning is a fine asset.
With Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou set to depart this summer, the Metro claims the Gunners will commit up to £6 million to replace them in central defence with the Austrian.
