Arsenal look to La Liga for crucial signing.
Arsenal are set for talks with Valencia over the signing of the Spanish club’s vice captain Vicente Guaita, according to Football Espana.
The 26 year-old goalkeeper was not selected for the club’s opening La Liga fixture of the season, and although he has been offered a new contract, the uncertainty of his place in the side has left his future in doubt.
Guaita, who is 6’3″ tall and possesses a big wingspan, is a strong presence in the back line, a fine saver of shots from both distance and close range, and whose concentration throughout matches has resulted in many points winning performances.
Arsenal’s current custodian Wojciech Szczesny has been an unreliable performer between the posts – too prone to massive rushes of blood to the head like against Aston Villa when he gave away a penalty by scything down Gabriel Agbonlahor, or in the same game when he rushed out of his box to head clear a ball and took a year and a half to return to his position.
It goes without saying that Szczesny has not developed as much or as quickly as Gunners fans hoped, and perhaps the signing of Guaita will aid his development.
