The Brazilian midfielder is seen as the perfect player to fill the void in the middle of the park for Arsenal, and with Real Madrid no longer touted as a possible destination Arsene Wenger may just get his man.
21-year-old Silva is currently plying his trade with Cruzeiro, but now looks set for a £12m move to the Premier League. His combination of tough tackling and technical ability could see him become a mainstay in the Arsenal team, and at such a young age he seems like a typical Wenger signing.
He was originally thought to be a long term replacement for Arsenal target and Real Madrid star Sami Khedira, but the German World Cup winner looks set to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti ruled out a move for Silva, claiming he was happy with his squad and that there was no need for reinforcements in January.
“I’m happy with the squad I’ve got although Khedira has been a little unlucky with a minor problem but Jese’s back. We don’t need to bring in anyone in January,” he said.
