Khedira talks stalled last week; Carvalho has £37 million release clause.
North Londoners Arsenal are believed to be going all out for Sporting Lisbon sensation William Carvalho as their next enforcer signing, according to the Daily Star.
With the Gunners having pulled out of the chase for Real Madrid defensive midfielder Sami Khedira citing the 2014 World Cup winner’s high wage demands, their boss Arsene Wenger has now put his hopes on landing 22-year old Carvalho.
Wenger needs an enforcer desperately to solidify his title claim this season, but his £24 million offer for Carvalho has been turned down as Sporting want an amount closer their starlet’s £37 million release clause.
Manchester United and Chelsea also expressed an interest in the Portuguese international earlier in the summer, but their interest seems to have cooled down due the hefty asking price.
Wenger too would not want to pay the full amount of Carvalho’s release clause and would be hoping that he can strike a deal at around £30 million.
Carvalho impressed in his first full season in the Portuguese top flight last term, and is regarded as one with a bright future.
