Player expected to make his Arsenal debut at the Stadium of Light.
Mesut Ozil is set to be thrown in at the deep end by making his Arsenal debut at Sunderland after just two days’ training.
The £42m record signing will start at the Stadium of Light after Tomas Rosicky returned from international duty with an injury. The Czech midfielder is a major doubt, while Jack Wilshere, who played 67 minutes for England in Ukraine on Tuesday, could also be left on the bench.
Theo Walcott picked up an ankle injury in the drab 0-0 draw in Kiev but Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has insisted the winger will be fit, while Olivier Giroud, the only fit senior striker at Arsene Wenger’s disposal, is certain to start.
With Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo both injured, 17-year-old striker Chuba Akpom could be on the bench but fellow prodigy Gediom Zelalem is definitely out, after being ruled out for around two months earlier this week.
