Gunners set for £15 million swoop to improve their strike force.
Arsenal are set to rival Chelsea for the signature of £15 million rated Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, reports the Daily Star.
The Croatian was the highest scorer for the Bavarians last season, but is expendable at the Allianz Arena after the arrival of Polish star Robert Lewandowski this summer.
Arsenal need to beef up their thin strike force at any cost in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and Mandzukic has been on their manager Arsene Wenger’s radar since January this year.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also said to be keen on the marksman, but Wenger is determined to keep his option of signing the 28-year old open in case he fails to land his ace striker target Mario Balotelli this summer.
It promises to be an intriguing transfer battle as both Arsenal and Chelsea are in dire need of capable forwards in order to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.
