Arsenal have entered the race to sign Nottingham Forest’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Karl Darlow, as they continue their search for a back-up to Wojciech Szczesny.
The Gunners have already been linked with Guillermo Ochoa, Keylor Navas, Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas this summer as they attempt to find a replacement for Lukasz Fabinaski, who has joined Swansea City.
Forest are reluctant to lose Darlow, who has been a key figure for them over the last 18 months, as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League next season. However, they are bracing themselves for offers, with Liverpool and Tottenham keeping tabs on the Englishman.
Darlow broke into the Forest first team in January 2013, following loan spells with Walsall and Newport County, and is now regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers outside of the Premier League.
His form with the Championship side saw him rewarded with a new contract last summer and, as such, he is unlikely to be allowed to leave on the cheap by new Forest manager Stuart Pearce.
Arsenal’s rivals for Darlow’s signature – Liverpool – are also seeking goalkeeping competition for Simon Mignolet, while Tottenham are looking for a young stopper to rival Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel.
