The Portuguese international, 23, is one of the most highly rated prospects in European football at the moment, and would make a fine buy for the Emirates Stadium side as they look to strengthen their options in that position.
Although Francis Coquelin has performed well since being brought into the Arsenal first-team this season, there is still a need to replace struggling players like Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere in that role, with the pair having injury-hit campaigns and not particularly impressing when they have been fit.
Campbell, currently on loan at La Liga side Villarreal, has not managed to make a breakthrough in Arsene Wenger’s squad, and could now, according to the Daily Telegraph, be used in this deal to tempt Sporting into letting their star player go, in what would be a smart piece of business by the Gunners.
