Arsenal are eyeing up a €24m bid for Real Sociedad wide-man Antoine Griezmann, reports Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.
The 23-year-old had a superb season in La Liga, scoring 16 goals from the left wing.
His excellent form earned him his first caps for France this year, and he’s heading to the World Cup with Didier Deschamps’ side as a result.
As a result, many top European clubs are interested in the flyer, and Arsenal may have to battle Serie A champions Juventus for his signature.
Arsene Wenger is set to awarded a £100m transfer budget following his FA Cup triumph last term, and he could well sign Griezmann with some of his funds.
Since Theo Walcott injured himself around Christmas time, the Gunners have badly lacked pace and dynamism in the final third.
While the likes of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil are creatively superb, they lack the speed and direct style to trouble defenders in behind.
Girezmann would undoubtedly provide the pace and trickery to the Arsenal side it has lacked since Walcott’s injury.
Next term, with Walcott healthy and Griezmann potentially starting on the left, Ozil’s ability to thread intricate through balls in behind will be maximised.
The Gunners currently deploy Lukas Podolski or Santi Cazorla on the left, and while the German provides a genuine goal threat and Cazorla’s technical efficiency helps him retain possession, neither can beat a fullback.
Griezmann has been with his Spanish club his entire career, making 201 appearances since making his debut in 2009, and scoring 52 goals in that time as well.
His talent is undeniable, and last term, he started to truly fulfil it.
