Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Sami Khedira, one of the world’s best holding midfielders…
Arsenal will return to Real Madrid in January to sign 26-year-old combative midfielder Sami Khedira, reports the Metro.
The Gunner signed german playmaker Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on this summer’s transfer deadline day, and Arsene Wenger is keen to secure a deal for Ozil’s international compatriot when the window re-opens.
Current Chelsea boss Joe Mourinho brought Khedira to Madrid at the same time he signed Ozil, and the pair formed a great friendship at the La Liga giants.
“Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer. We are very, very good friends,” Khedira said, following his friend’s blockbuster move to north London.
“His departure is a loss also from a sporting perspective. Mesut can make the difference,” he added.
It now could be the case the Khedira reunites with his friend Ozil, with whom he won the La Liga title in the 2011/12 season.
The German playmaker has established himself as one of the world’s best holding midfielders over the past three seasons, but he has started this term slowly under Carlo Ancelotti, who could be prepared to cut his losses and sell to Arsenal again.
Khedira has made three appearances in la Liga this term creating only one chance, taking no shots, and winning only a third of his duels.
Arsenal did sign Mathieu Flamini, who plays defensive midfield, on a free this summer from AC Milan this summer, but Khedira would inject more quality to the reinvigorated Emirates side.
