Higuain close to Emirates Stadium switch.
Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain after the striker proved too expensive for Juventus, according to his brother Nicolas.
The Argentina international has made no secret of his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with the Gunners and Scudetto winners thought to be locked in a two-way battle for his signature.
But the north London outfit have come up trumps, after the 25-year-old proved too costly for the Old Lady.
“I think that Higuain is now closer to Arsenal,” Nicolas Higuain, the forward’s agent-brother, is quoted as saying by Football Italia.
“Juventus are a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.”
It is thought Arsenal will pay between £20m and £25m for the striker, who has bagged 107 La Liga goals since arriving in the Spanish capital in 2005.
Juve’s fellow Serie A outfit Napoli have also been linked with a surprise late move for the former River Plate striker, as a replacement for Chelsea and Real Madrid target Edinson Cavani.
But Nicolas Higuain hinted that his brother was set for the Emirates Stadium.
“Napoli are a strong side and that place represents a lot for Argentines,” Nicolas added.
“Saying that, I can’t deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.”
