Gunners line up move for Schalke star Benedikt Howedes.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger appears to have acknowledged the requirement for January defensive reinforcements at the Emirates Stadium in January, with the Mirror reporting that the Gunners are lining up a move for experienced German international Benedikt Howedes from Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke.

The report suggests that Howedes, who has 31 caps for his national side, would cost a substantial fee in the region of £15 million, but signing Howedes would bring in another experienced international to an Arsenal squad that is packed full of continental quality.
Howedes would join international teammates Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker in North London, although the latter retired in the summer after winning the World Cup, but Schalke are unlikely to want to sell a player who has become synonymous with the Gelsenkirchen based club.
