Superstar Italian maverick could well be heading back to the Premier League…
Arsenal’s summer move for AC Milan’s world-class striker Mario Balotelli has moved one step closer after Arsene Wenger held promising talks with the players agent Mino Raiola, reports the Express.
The brilliant forward has been a revelation since returning to Italy in January 2013 from Manchester City, scoring 26 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan.
Despite his goals though, his club currently sit in ninth place in Serie A, and it looks as though the club will miss out on Champions League football next season, The 23-year-old is desperate to play in Europe’s premier club competition, and a summer move to Arsenal could ensure this.
According to reports in the Metro earlier in the month, Arsenal’s kit sponsors from next season onwards Puma would be prepared to help fund the mammoth transfer. AC Milan would undoubtedly command an enormous fee for their star player, but if Puma are serious about bringing their marquee player to their marquee club, a potential transfer could be made far easier.
Balotelli is capable of scoring any types of goals, and has arguably not even reached his undeniable potential yet.
The striker scored this wondergoal at the weekend against Bologna, and would provide Arsenal with a superb alternative to current striker Olivier Giroud…
AC Milan 1-0 Bologna (Amazing Goal Mario… by all-goals
Balotelli was often used from a wide position at Manchester City, but Arsenal would seemingly use him as a replacement or rotation option for current French forward Olivier Giroud, in a lone striker role.
Here’s how the Arsenal side could line up with Balotelli this season…
This term, Balotelli has scored 12 and registered three assists in Serie A and the Champions League combined, while Giroud has bagged 12 and assisted seven in the Premier and Champions League.
While Giroud’s ability to hold the ball up is impressive, Balotelli is renowned as a more clinical finisher, and is certainly more capable of moments of genius.
Here’s how a few excited Gunners fans have reacted to the transfer rumour on Twitter:
