Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could spend months on the sidelines with his ankle injury worse than initially thought, according to reports.
Wilshere was forced to miss the Gunners’ 1-0 Community Shield win over Chelsea last weekend after picking up yet another ankle injury.
Initial reports suggested Wilshere would miss the opening game of the Premier League season as a precautionary measure, however, The Mirror suggests he could miss up to two months with a hairline fracture in his left fibula.
It’s yet another injury setback for the talented 23-year-old, and the report claims the midfielder could go under the knife.
Wilshere has a history of ankle and foot issues and missed six months of last season after undergoing surgery on his left ankle.
With the Arsenal midfield impressing at Wembley on Sunday, Wilshere now has his work cut out to break back into the side when he regains full fitness.
Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin put in solid performances in the win over the Blues and all are expected to start in Arsenal’s season opener against West Ham United on Sunday.
