Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere has finally come clean about smoking a cigarette, stating to the Gunners’ official website that it was a mistake.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted to smoking a cigarette outside a London drinking establishment, after he was photographed in the act at the weekend.
The England international initially denied the misdemeanour, issuing the below statement through his spokesman:
“Jack was with team-mates and friends. One dared Jack, who does not smoke, to momentarily hold the cigarette as part of a prank.
“Jack absolutely didn’t smoke the cigarette, and nor does he condone smoking. Jack is utterly committed to fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
“In no way is this picture an accurate reflection of his attitude towards smoking.”
However, speaking to his club’s online channel Arsenal Player, he appears to have admitted the offence, and sought contrition by telling the fans it was an error of judgement.

Asked if it is an issue he expects to come back, Wilshere replied: “No, its not. I am not a smoker so I think that will be my last one.”

Glad Wilshere has admitted he was smoking, albeit belatedly. Original explanation was ludicrous. Deal with it, move on. #afc
