Walcott still backs the Gunners despite Spurs’ new signings.
It’s the first north London derby of the season this weekend and it’s a tale of two different fortunes at both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur so far this campaign.
Whilst the Gunners have made just two new signings in free transfers Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini, Tottenham have spent £59m on new stars and are set to bring in two more expensive acquisitions.
Which Real Madrid ace are the Gunners prepared to pay €30m for?
Despite the fact that Gareth Bale is set to leave White Hart Lane for Real Madrid, Spurs are arguably a stronger all-round side this year due to the arrival of players such as Paulinho and Roberto Soldado.
However, Theo Walcott still believes that the Englishman’s team are superior in the north of the capital, despite the lack of new faces.
“Are they stronger than us? Not at all. I feel that we’re very, very strong,” the 24-year-old told the Daily Star.
“Everyone may say our squad is very, very weak and there are not many of us, but we have already proved a lot of people wrong this season.
“Tottenham have invested well, they’ve got some very good players, a good manager as well. But the way we are playing at the moment, we believe we can beat anyone.
“We don’t care who we’re playing against, whether they’ve brought in £30m stars – it doesn’t matter.”
Spurs have recorded back-to-back 1-0 victories in the Premier League so far this term, whilst their rivals have been on either end of a 3-1 result.
Losing to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium was a confidence-sapping defeat, but since then Arsenal have beaten Fulham away and qualified for the Champions League via a 5-0 aggregate win over Fenerbahce.
Walcott will be an important player for the side on Sunday as several injuries to key stars -including Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski – means the club are short of fit options.
