Gunners forward pinpoints victory at Allianz Arena as turning point.
Arsenal’s Theo Walcott says last season’s Champions League win at eventual winners Bayern Munich gave the players ‘belief’.
The Gunners were beaten over two legs by the Bavarian giants in the last 16 but won 2-0 at the Allianz Arena after being beaten 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
The win in Germany has been followed by nine straight away victories – a club record.
Walcott says the victory of Jupp Heynckes side gave the Gunners the confidence to push on in the Premier League and finish in the top four.
“There were times last season when maybe we didn’t believe in ourselves,” Walcott said.
“It was only after we went to Bayern Munich and won at one of the toughest places in Europe that we started to think ‘We are a very good team ourselves’.
“After that game we knew where we wanted to be — in the Champions League again.
“And that’s why everyone was working so hard for each other in the final 10 games of the season to make sure we qualified.
“And we have continued to play at that high level this season.
“You can see a lot of players in our team having fantastic starts to the campaign.
