Arsenal’s largely non-playing skipper Thomas Vermaelen is set to hold final talks with his manager Arsene Wenger about his future at the Emirates, reports the Daily Mail.
The 28-year old centre-back wants to leave after being a mere backup centre-half at the club over the last 18 months, and the Gunners are not averse to letting him go for around £10 million, if they manage to get their hands on a good enough replacement.
Manchester United and Barcelona are said to be keen on signing Vermaelen, who did not travel with the Gunners to Austria and is due to hold talks with Wenger next week. The French boss seems like he is resigned to letting Vermaelen leave this summer and admitted as much in an interview last month.
Hence, unless there is a big turnaround in talks between Vermaelen and the Gunners, it seems rather likely that the Belgian international will put an end to his 5 year stint at the Emirates and find himself a new home.
