Speaking to Sky Sports, the 20-year-old revealed that he is staying positive about his loan move to Hull City and believes that it will help him in his development to one day feature for the Gunners in the Premier League.
Akpom has scored three goals so far this season as he has established himself as an ever-present in Steve Bruce’s side, and is confident about his chances of impressing Wenger further having already signed a long-term deal with the club earlier this year.
Furthermore, the youngster featured for Arsenal during their pre-season campaign, and hopes that coupled with his form for Hull, it will be enough to convince his parent club that he has the necessary talent to make it at the top.
Akpom’s athleticism, skill and finishing ability are all major strengths in his game as he proved to be a prolific striker in the Arsenal youth ranks, but after previous short-term loans at Brentford, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest, he will hope his latest move to Hull will be the one that sends him back to the Emirates on a permanent basis.
“I’d say it’s my first proper loan,” he tells Sky Sports. “Other times I was going out for a month here and a month there, so this is my proper full-season loan.
“That’s where [at Arsenal] I want to play at the end of the day. For someone like Arsene Wenger to say that I’ve got a big chance at Arsenal, it must mean something.”
Interestingly, Akpom went on to compare his situation to that of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane, who also gained experience through loan spells prior to making his impact at White Hart Lane.
If the Arsenal starlet can enjoy a similar path, then the Gunners faithful will certainly be looking forward to a bright future.
