Karim Benzema is being given a hard time by the Madrid fans this season…
Arsenal could step up their pursuit of Real Madrid’s world-class 25-year-old French striker Karim Benzema when the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Daily Star.
Since his £27m move Lyon back in 2009, Benzema has scored 91 goals in 189 games for the Spanish giants, establishing himself as one the most feared strikers in Europe.
However, Los Blancos’ demanding fan base have become disgruntled by his performances and his relaxed on-field approach. They wants young Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to be given a chance to spearhead the side instead of the Frenchman, and repeatedly chanted for the substitution to be made all evening during Madrid’s 4-1 win over Getafe last night.
Benzema’s touches and contribution was also roundly jeered, and Arsenal could well take advantage of the player’s unrest, and make a large bid in January when the window opens.
The player himself could be open to a move to link up with the large French contingent at the Emirates.
The Gunners missed out on superstar strikers Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain this summer, but eventually secured the marquee signing fans were demanding when Mesut Ozil arrived from Real Madrid for £42m.
The relationship formed between the two clubs over the Ozil transfer could smooth a potential Benzema deal this time around, now Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has proved he is not afraid of spending big money if the right players are available.
