With Sergio Ramos seemingly closing in on a move to Manchester United, Daily Star [via AS] reports the La Liga giants are eyeing the Zenit St Petersburg defender as a potential replacement for the 29-year-old.
The 28-year-old spent two seasons at Real Madrid after joining from Racing Santander in 2008, but failed to impress in front of the demanding Real Madrid faithful.
However, Garay has improved out of sight since moving to Benfica in 2011 before joining Zenit in a £10m deal in last season.
According to the report, Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the Argentine international but could lose out to the La Liga giants this summer.
Arsene Wenger is looking to further strengthen his squad as the Gunners look to make an assault on the Premier League title next season, and the Frenchman needs to add depth to what already is a star-studded side.
