After an impressive start to his Arsenal career, Gunners playmaker Mesut Ozil says he can still get better – surely an ominous sign for the rest of the Premier League.
The Germany international had a lightning start to his career with the north London outfit, scoring three goals and providing four assists in his opening seven matches, but this season had his first ever winter of football without a break and appeared fatigued.
Ozil sustained a minor shoulder injury at the start of the year too, but it appears the break has done him good.
Whilst not yet back to his very best, Ozil has come back strongly, and his performance against Aston Villa was understated class – particularly off the ball.
Asked what had helped him settle into English football, Ozil said he attributed much of his successful acclimatization to English football to his team-mates.
“Well first of all the team really accepted me very well,” the German told the Daily Mirror.
I knew before I came to Arsenal what kind of players were here.
And of course in training you can see how many good players are here, the most important thing is that we work well as a team – that’s the most important thing.
We have great players in our team and we can achieve great things if we really put our foot down and try hard.”
“Every league is different, especially here the Premier League is different to La Liga or the Bundesliga but I am very satisfied.
“I know I can play better, I know what potential I have. But the most important thing is that everything works well at the moment with the team.”
