The attacking midfielder has faced the club several times over the years.
One Arsenal man who has experience against Champions League opponents Borussia Dortmund is club record signing Mesut Ozil, with this being the 12th time the German has faced the club.
Since breaking into the Schalke 04 first team back in 2006, the 24-year-old has experienced some highs and lows when coming up against the men in yellow.
Schalke 04
The young attacking midfielder initially faced the might of Dortmund way back in the 2006/07 Bundesliga campaign.
Ozil’s first taste of defeat to the Yellow and Blacks also came in this tie as the club strolled to a 2-0 victory over Schalke.
Next time round however it was a much happier occasion for the 24-year-old as a 4-1 win over Dortmund settled things.
Werder Bremen
A fall-out and a January transfer later and suddenly Ozil was facing Dortmund for the second time in the 2007/08 season but this time in a Bremen shirt.
The star played four Bundesliga ties in two years against the side, resulting in one win, one draw and two defeats, but also beat Dortmund 1-2 on the way to winning the German Cup.
Real Madrid
It was at the Santiago Bernabeu that Ozil really became recognised as a truly world-class star and despite no longer playing in the Bundesliga, lined up against Dortmund four times in the 2012/13 campaign.
A defeat and a draw in the group stages was hardly great and then a 4-3 aggregate loss in the semi-finals crushed Madrid’s hopes of Champions League glory.
However, Los Blancos did win the second leg of the semis 2-0 and Ozil can cheer up Arsenal fans by the fact that the midfielder either scored or assisted in all of those European ties.
Ozil’s overall Dortmund record:
Won: Three.
Drawn: Three.
Lost: Five.
