Berahino’s blistering start to the season has not gone unnoticed…
Arsenal are set to beat Chelsea to the signature of West Brom’s 20-year-old forward Saido Berahino, reports the Independent.
The 20-year-old has scored five goals in six matches this season, including an impressive strike against Manchester United at Old Trafford that helped the Baggies leave with an unlikely three points.
Berahino is a former refugee from Burundi, but has been playing for West Brom as a youngster since 2004, before making his Premier League debut this year.
The Blues were reportedly interested in the impressive young attacker, but Arsene Wenger reckons the Emirates will be the perfect place to develop his talent, and it’s unlikely the player will disagree. Arsenal currently only have Nicklas Bendtner as a backup striker, and Berahino’s chances of game time will be much higher at Arsenal than it would be at Chelsea, where a forward like Romelu Lukaku has been sent out on loan.
Chelsea are willing to offer £5m for the prodigal attacker, but Baggies boss Steve Clarke will be desperate to keep hold of the striker.
Despite the promise of a huge increase in wages, a move to Chelsea might not be the best thing for Berahino’s career. With European pedigree players like Kevin De Bruyne, Willian and Demba Ba struggling for any game time at all, and Romelu Lukaku being shipped out on loan, it is unlikely that Berahino will get any sort of chance at Stamford Bridge, regardless of his talent.
