Schalke skipper open to Bundesliga exit.
Schalke star Benedikt Howedes has dropped a huge hint that he would be open to a move to Arsenal this summer by claiming that he has always dreamed of playing overseas, Inside Futbol reports.
Arsenal are on the hunt for a new centre-back following the departure of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona and Germany World Cup star Howedes has been mooted as a target for boss Arsene Wenger.
Schalke are keen to hang on to their influential captain, aware that his stock has never been higher since winning the World Cup with Germany this summer, and though the player has sought to reassure the fans that he is committed to the club while for as long as he is there, he also admitted that he has often dreamed of playing his football overseas.
“There are always rumours in football, especially if you have won the World Cup, but I do not think about them at this time,” he said.
“I have worn the shirt of Schalke since I was 13 and I would not have stayed here so long if I did not enjoy it.
“Of course, I have always said that one day I want to have an experience abroad, learn a new language, get used to a different club and learn about a new environment, but there is still time.”
