Arsenal could move for Borussia Dortmund’s impressive Polish right-back Lukasz Piszczek this summer, reports the Metro.
The 28-year-old was exceptional for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, as Dortmund battled through to the Champions League final, only to lose in the final to arch rivals Bayern Munich.
The Gunners currently have the ultra solid Bacary Sagna at right-back, and although they would rather keep hold of the Frenchman, reports suggest the 31-year-old is demanding an astronomical contract extension. Sagna’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be able to leave the Emirates on a free unless he’s offered the terms he requires. If this proves to be the case, Arsenal will have to look for suitable replacement.
Piszczek missed the first five months of the season with a nasty injury he picked up last summer, but he’s come back into full fitness in 2014, and re-established himself as an automatic starter on the right of the Dortmund back four.
The Polish international prides himself on a very impressive work-rate up and down the right flank. While he is defensively solid, he loves to burst up the flank and provide an overlapping option for his attacking midfielders.
Piszczek’s technical ability enables him to be a real attacking asset for Dortmund. If he receives the ball in the final third, he can deliver telling crosses, or play incisive passes infield to the likes of Marco Reus or Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
In this respect, Piszczek suits Arsene Wenger’s attacking, fluid style perfectly, but only time will tell if he’ll be able to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality.
This term he’s made nine Bundesliga starts, and is expected to line up this evening against Zenit in the Champions League.
Since arriving at Dortmund from Hertha Berlin in 2010, the Pole has won two Bundesliga titles, and earned 35 caps for his country.
