According to Ivorian football website Koaci.com, Newcastle Midfielder Cheick Tiote is keen to leave Newcastle in January, and has been in contact with Arsenal.
“I want to leave. I’ve spent four years with Newcastle”, the player is quoted as saying. “I think I have reached a stage where it’s maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge… it is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I’d prefer to stay in England.”
Arsenal are currently missing several midfielders, and will be wishing they had followed up their interest in Tiote in the summer. They may now be considering a January move for the player whose praises Alan Pardew was singing just a few days ago.
Newcastle were keen to offer Tiote a new contract, but may now accept that they have to sell.
