Williams’ move to Sunderland comes a cropper.
Swansea City have rejected a £4 million pound offer from Sunderland for Arsenal target Ashley Williams, reports Setanta.com.
The Welsh centre-back has just one more year left on his current deal at the Liberty stadium, but his agent Jamie Moralee does not think that his client will leave the Swans.
The agent suggested that 29-year old Williams is keen to work out a new deal at Swansea and said, “We’ll see what happens. A bid has come in from Sunderland but I’ve got no control over who bids for my players and neither has the player.
“At the moment, Ash is in Sardinia, I’m in Brazil and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is somewhere else. It’s up to Swansea to make him an offer because he doesn’t want to leave.”
Williams is said to be holding out for a new deal at the Liberty Stadium in the wake of interest from a top club like Arsenal, but should he not agree new terms, there is every chance that he could be sold by the Welsh club this summer.
The Gunners are reportedly hoping to strike a cut price deal for the experienced defender to replace their outcast skipper Thomas Vermaelen, but it will be interesting to see whether Arsene Wenger would move for a player nearing his 30s as opposed to a much younger prospect.
