Borussia Dortmund the favourites to sign Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United transfer target.
AS Saint Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hinted that despite being a big fan of the English Premier League, he could instead favour a move to Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with WhoScored.com, Aubameyang said that he was a big admirer of both Dortmund and their manager Jurgen Klopp.
“I like the Premier League, because I like the physical game, and I like the Bundesliga very much.
“I have seen a lot of Borussia Dortmund’s matches, and I love their style of play. My characteristics could match perfectly with the style of play adopted by Jurgen Klopp.
“I know they followed me recently, so we have to see at the end of the season.”
Aubameyang has attracted interest from north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham this season as well as Newcastle United, and the clubs may have to move quickly if they are to secure his signature ahead of such illustrious rivals.
Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are set to lose Mario Goetze this summer, who will join arch rivals and UEFA Champions League final opponents Bayern Munich for a German record fee, and star striker Robert Lewandowski is also set to depart after refusing to sign a new contract.
Given Aubameyang’s ability to play either up front, on the wing or behind a striker, there will certainly be a vacancy in the Borussia Dortmund squad that the Gabon international could fill.
His record of 19 goals and 9 assists in 35 Ligue 1 starts is a formidable return, and whichever club lands Aubameyang this summer will have a fine player on their books.
