A rising star in Russia, Aleksandr Kokorin is could be the scoring threat Arsenal have been looking for.
With Karim Benzema slamming the brakes on Arsenal’s bid for his services, the Gunners have switched to Plan B and stepped up their pursuit of Dynamo Moscow’s Aleksandr Kokorin.
According to the Metro, Arsenal are closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old Russian forward and hope to upend efforts by Man United, Tottenham, PSG and Zenit to get his signature.
Earlier this week Benzema took to social media to rebuff a report that he had sealed a deal to move to Emirates Stadium prior to Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool. For the second time in three matches Arsenal were shut out as Alexis Sanchez continues to return to form and Olivier Girioud tries to prove he isn’t on the downswing.
The 24-year-old Aleksandr Kokorin has 28 goals in 71 Russian Premier League matches and has recorded at least 10 total goals in each of the last three seasons.
Kokorin also has 8 goals for the Russian national team, and had a score against Algeria in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
