Gunners look towards yet another defensive midfield star.
Arsenal added Schalke captain Bendekt Howedes to their ever growing list of transfer targets in the defensive midfield position, according to the Metro.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to wrap up his summer shopping by signing a utility player that can feature in central defence, full-back and in midfield.
Wenger has in recent weeks also been linked with big money moves for both William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon as well as Wolfsburg’s Luis Gustavo, but reports are now linking him with a move for Howedes.
The 26-year-old was a part of Germany’s World cup winning squad in Brazil this summer and is best known for his versatility, power, and leadership qualities.
Howedes often plays more as a centre-back than a midfielder, but is no stranger to the position, and Wenger is thought to be attracted by his experience and aforementioned leadership qualities.
Despite only penning a new deal to tie him to Schalke until 2017 the Gunners believe that a tempting offer could persuade the Bundesliga giants to let him move on.
