Atletico Madrid are set to pay the €35m release clause which will allow them to beat Arsenal and AC Milan to the signing of Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The Portuguese club announced on the stock exchange that the Spanish giants had agreed to pay the fee, and so the 28-year-old will now move closer to securing his move.
“This Tuesday, Atletico de Madrid informed Futebol Clube do Porto — Futebol, SAD that they will pay the release fee for player Jackson Martínez, worth €35 million,” an official statement read.
Martinez had been linked with Arsenal on numerous occasions in recent years, but the Gunners have now missed out on their chance to sign him provided that those stories were genuine.
Meanwhile, Milan believed that they had an agreement with the Colombian international this summer, but after talks broke down and Martinez made it clear that his preferred option was Atleti, negotiations continued between the respective parties with the Rossoneri left disappointed.
Given his prolific scoring in Portugal, it is no surprise that the former Porto star attracted so much attention. However, it now remains to be seen whether or not he can take that ability and prove to be a success in Spain.
