Arsene Wenger has targeted powerful Dutch stopper in January…
Arsenal have earmarked a move for Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi when the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old has shone for the Dutch side this season, and has alerted a whole host of European clubs, including Roberto Martinez’s new Everton side as well as Arsenal.
Martins Indi could be available for around £8m, and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger reckons his arrival will provide stiff competition for current first-choice pairing Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
Both have performed to a very good level for Arsenal this term, helping Wenger’s side to the top of the Premier League. With only injury-ridden Thomas Vermaelen as backup though, the veteran manager is worried that an injury to either Koscielny or Mertesacker would be fatal to their title hopes.
Former Gunners star Giovanni van Bronckhorst, now a coach at Feyenoord, gave Wenger a glowing report of the young centre-half.
“He is very good and strong. It is not for nothing he’s a first-choice here and with the Dutch national team. He will make the move to a foreign club in the long term,” said the World Cup finalist.
