The Gunners want the Italian of it all falls through with the current manager.
Arsene Wenger is currently in the Frenchman’s final year of the 63-year-old’s contract at the Emirates Stadium and as yet is to sign a new deal with the club.
As a precaution the Gunners are looking into the possibility of bringing in Juventus manager Antonio Conte as a replacement for the man who has been in charge for 17 years, according to the Daily Star.
After a disappointing 1-3 home defeat to Aston Villa on the first day of the Premier League, coupled with the fact no money had been spent on new players at the time, many fans in north London wanted Wenger out.
Yet the fickle nature of football supporters was shown when the the manager has not only masterminded a 100% record across six matches in the league and Champions League since then, but also negotiated the club record £42.4m arrival of superstar Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
Things are now a little more calm at the Emirates, with the side sitting second in the division and many now believing this could well be the season they end their eight-year trophy drought.
Wenger has said that talks have been put on hold until it’s seen how well the team performs in 2013/14.
“We are in September and my contract finishes in June, there is a long way to go,” the manager was quoted in the Star.
“There is no need to plan (any talks). I have said many times I want to do well with this club and in the end I will sit down and think ‘how well have I done with the team I have had?’ That has to be sufficient for me to decide yes or no.
“One of the main judgments you can have about a manager is how well he does with his team.”
Wenger has been strongly linked with the top job at Paris Saint-Germain, with current boss Laurent Blanc’s contract also expiring next summer.
