Gunners hope to bring Germany U21 international to the Emirates this summer.
Arsenal hope to win the race to sign young Eintracht Frankfurt midfield player Sebastian Rode at the end of the season, according to reports in the Sun.
The North Londoners have reportedly been keeping close tabs on the Germany Under-21 international for some time now, however, they will face stiff competition for the player’s signature this summer from the likes of Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund and Bavarian giants Bayern Munich.
It is understood that the defensive midfield player has rejected Frankfurt’s offer of a new contract and with the 22-year-old’s present deal with the club set to expire at the end of next season, his employers have therefore decided to sell Rode this summer rather than risk losing the player for free in June 2014.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is known to be on the look-out for a new midfield player who can protect his leaky back four next season, with there being continual doubts over the long-term fitness of Abou Diaby and with Frankfurt expected to demand a fee of only £7.5 million for Rode in the summer, the highly-rated up-and-coming player could be on his way to the Emirates, especially after letting it be known that he would prefer a move to the Premier League over staying in the Bundesliga.
