Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly poised to pip North London rivals Arsenal in the transfer race for the signature of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The France international has been linked with the Gunners for many months, but talk of a move to the Emirates has cooled recently due to the fine form of Francis Coquelin.
Spurs have apparently taken advantage of Arsenal’s hesitancy to become favourites to recruit Schneiderlin this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham are preparing an offer of £20m, plus either Andros Townsend or Benjamin Stambouli, to tempt the Saints to sell their star man to White Hart Lane.
Schneiderlin, 27, has scored four goals in 26 Premier League matches this season, but his game is not really about hitting the net.
He is a dominant midfielder who can boss the game from the centre of the park. Both Spurs and Arsenal are missing this type player. Ryan Mason and Coquelin aspire to do this, but neither are top class. Schneiderlin is.
