Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked with transfer bids for Feyenoord star.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the signing of Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie, with stories in both the Metro and talkSPORT this week.
The Dutch star has impressed this season at both club and international level, and the talkSPORT article even suggests he has earned comparisons with FC Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez.
Although Clasie tends to play a deeper role in midfield, he is not strictly speaking the enforcer type that Arsenal fans crave to play alongside Jack Wilshere in central midfield.
Instead, he would be more of a like-for-like understudy for the ageing Mikel Arteta, whose lack of pace has resulted in some poor tackles chasing back, and subsequent bookings, with a recent example being his clumsy tackle on Mario Mandzukic against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League match.
Clasie certainly possesses more pace, but his slender physique would likely leave him requiring time to adapt to the more strenuous Premier League.
With Santi Cazorla moving into a wide role and Jack Wilshere’s position starting to reflect the number ten on the back of his shirt.
The perennially injured Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey are the other options for central midfield, and with neither having fully convinced there is an opportunity for Clasie to fight for a place in the team.
However, according to both the Metro and talkSPORT above, the Gunners may have to fight off interest from arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur to sign him.
