Sociedad’s Vela could be coming back to the Emirates.
Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela could be making a surprise £4m return to Arsenal as it emerges there is a buy back clause in the Mexican’s contract, according to Inside Futbol.
The 25-year-old spent six years on the Gunners’ books after arriving in London as a teenager, but was shipped out on-loan no fewer than five times.
The last of those was to Sociedad and after a year with the club on a temporary basis Vela made his move to Spain permanent in 2012 for around £3m.
This term has been hugely impressive for the Mexico international and it’s likely the attacker would cost many times the fee the Spaniards sanctioned just two years ago.
Vela has scored 20 goals in all competitions, primarily from the right wing, as the Basque club returned to the Champions League and had another good campaign in La Liga.
With the central American’s current deal at the Anoeta Stadium expiring in 2015 questions are now being asked about why Sociedad have let this happen.
The representatives of Vela have flown to the English capital to begin discussions with the north Londoners as he decides whether he wants to return to a club that deemed him not good enough just 24 months ago.
During his previous spell under Arsene Wenger the winger managed just 62 appearances in six years and the manager could not find a place for him in the side.
With Wenger needing support in attack this could well be the perfect option due to Vela’s talent and the low financial risk.
