It was revealed by the Bundesliga club yesterday that the German will not be signing a new deal with his current contract set to expire in 2016.
The Daily Telegraph suggest that BVB will now accept bids of around £20 million for the 24-year-old this summer in order to prevent him leaving on a free contract next season.
The Telegraph goes on to say that Man United have already expressed an interest in the German’s services, even trying to sign him in the past but will now have to compete with Arsenal who have Gundogan on their shortlist of midfield targets after making an enquiry in the January window.
Morgan Schneiderlin is another name on that list but would cost slightly more than Gundogan at around £25m, whilst Arsenal would have to compete with the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea for his signature.
Arsene Wenger is said to have been impressed with Francis Coquelin this term and his emergence as the Arsenal side’s defensive midfielder.
However, the Frenchman is now looking for a dynamic, box-to-box style midfielder who has the ability to track back but player from deep and get up the pitch to compliment and play alongside Coquelin.
It remains to be seen which players is the north London side’s number one target.
