Calum Chambers played well but not great for Arsenal in his first year with the club. Is Arsene Wenger ready to pull the plug already?
Arsenal are apparently ready to give up on Calum Chambers as a permanent defensive starter with a loan move reportedly in the works.
According to the Metro, Chambers has been made an offer to re-join Southampton – his prior club – on a full-year loan spell next season. The 20-year-old defender made 23 starts for Arsenal in 2014-15 after signing with the club on a £16 million sale by the Saints. During his first year with Arsenal, Chambers recorded his first ever league goal in a November win over Burnley and otherwise received very good reviews about his performance in the first half of the season.
But Chambers failed to build upon his success late in the year and by the time Arsenal made it to the FA Cup, Chambers was completely off the matchday lineup.
Though Southampton are extremely interested in bringing back Chambers – the feeling may not be mutual. A recent report by The Sun stated that Calum would prefer to stay in North London next year.
