With manager Arsene Wenger desperate for a new goalkeeper he has turned his attention to Tyneside to try and capitalise on Newcastle’s disharmony.
Arsenal’s latest goalkeeping target is set to be the subject of a £10m bid.
According to The Sun, manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to bring Newcastle ‘keeper Tim Krul to the Emirates.
Whilst recent attention may all be on Arsenal’s attempts at signing want-away Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, the Dutch international has also caught Wenger’s attention.
Krul has been a revelation for Newcastle in recent years. After club legend Shay Given left for Manchester City halfway through the 2008-09 season fans feared for the worst, but Krul did not take long to make the position his own.
Krul’s rise to acclaim coincided with the decline in form of fellow Dutch stopper Maarten Stekelenburg, now of Fulham, which allowed the Newcastle man to earn five caps for his country. He was also a part of the Netherlands’ 2012 European Championship squad.
Wenger has been openly pursuing several goalkeeping in recent weeks, with RCD Espanyol’s Kiko Casilla and Valencia CF’s Vicente Guaita all subjects of interest and reported insubstantial bids.
With four goals conceded in their opening two league games, fans will be hoping the Gunners can bring in a new goalie sooner rather than later, whoever he may be.
