The Gunners are considering a switch for Tiote.
In their search for a defensive midfielder Arsenal are prepared to meet Newcastle United’s £8m valuation of Cheick Tiote, according to CaughtOffside.
The Gunners have been on the search for a holding player for some time and manager Arsene Wenger admits that signing one is a priority this summer.
They have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, Sami Khedira of Real Madrid and Southampton ace Morgan Schneiderlin, among others.
However, as yet none of those deals have come to fruition and Wenger is instead keeping tabs on a lower key figure in the shape of Tiote.
The Magpies may well be open to selling the Ivory Coast international as well as they look to balance the books following Alan Pardew’s expenditure this summer.
Pardew has spent cover £30m on new players including Remy Cabella, Daryl Janmaat, Emmanuel Riviere, Siem de Jong, Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles.
Tiote joined Newcastle from FC Twente back in 2010 after the club had won promotion from the Championship in the previous season.
The 28-year-old has since played 119 times for the North East side in all competitions, helping them to fifth place in 2011/12 and famously scoring the equaliser against the North Londoners in a 4-4 thriller in that same campaign.
