The Gunners are keeping tabs on Juanfran.
The search for Bacary Sagna’s replacement at Arsenal continues as Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran is the latest on the wishlist, according to Goal.
Manager Arsene Wenger is resigned to the fact that Sagna will be leaving the Emirates Stadium when his current contract expires this summer – with Manchester City the 31-year-old’s most likely destination.
Therefore the Gunners are on the search for a new player on the right side of the back four, with Toulouse defender Serge Aurier having looked like the most promising target.
The Ivory Coast international has had a great 12 months in Ligue 1 with six goals and six assists and it’s thought the 21-year-old would be available for around £7m.
However, Wenger is now doubting whether Aurier has the required experience to go straight into the first team for the north Londoners and the 64-year-old is looking at other alternatives.
This is what has drawn the Frenchman to Juanfran, with the Spaniard having been instrumental in Atletico’s La Liga winning campaign and the fact they have reached their first ever Champions League final.
Having previously been at Real Madrid and then impressing at the Vicente Calderon Stadium for the past three years, the 29-year-old has bags of experience at the highest level.
Yet signing Juanfran would prove more problematic and expensive and with Wenger looking to improve in several other areas, the boss will have to decide if sanctioning so much on an aging full-back is worthwhile.
