Arsenal are set to meet with Serie A club AS Roma over the possible transfer of defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to reports.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old in recent days, and Metro reports Arsenal officials will meet with Roma director Walter Sabatini in an attempt to thrash out a deal.
It is understood Sabatini is in London to work on a number of deals, however the report suggests the transfer of Romagnoli is a high priority.
Arsenal have joined the race for Romagnoli at a late stage, with AC Milan reportedly having three separate bids turned down for the £24.4m rated defender.
Romagnoli impressed on loan in Sampdoria last season, sparking a flurry of interest for the player dubbed the ‘new Alessandro Nesta’.
In a further boost to the Gunners, AC Milan general manager Adriano Galliani is quoted by ESPNFC as saying the Rossoneri would not improve on its £17.5m offer for the player.
Arsenal are now in pole position to land Romagnoli, however, Roma will expect the Gunners to dig deep into its coffers to land the Italian youth international.
